Leave Gift In Your Will

A gift in your Will can provide compassionate care for local families when they need it most.

Remember us in your Will and help provide hospice care for generations

Gifts from wills, of all shapes and sizes, help us to invest in new services  to care for even more patients in the future. Each year we receive around £150,000 from legacies – these sums allow us to commit to investing in new services, helping us be there for more patients wherever and whenever they need our care.

With those important to you looked after, leaving a gift in your Will to Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity is an amazing way to ensure others in your community are looked after at a time when they need support the most.

No matter the size, a gift in your Will has a huge impact. It can ensure that we can continue to provide and grow our services to meet the needs of the local patients who need our specialist care. It means that we can be there for everyone who needs us.

If you’d like to help us continue to develop new services and help more local patients and families in future, please consider a gift in your will to Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity today.

If you’ve ever been to the Hospice or been visited by one of our community nurses, you’ll have seen first-hand the vital care we provide for local patients and their families.

You may also have experienced the support we continue to provide for families, carers and friends after the death of a loved one. A gift in your Will for Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity will help us continue providing our specialist care to families like Katie’s.

Everything you need to know about leaving a gift in your Will

We’ve put together some frequently asked questions about writing or amending a Will and leaving a gift to people and causes you care about.

There are 3 types of gifts you can leave in your will.

  1. Pecuniary – This is a sum of money
  2. Residuary – This is a percentage of whatever is left over after all other gifts of money, items and property has been distributed
  3. Specific – This includes any items such as jewellery or houses

We would recommend finding a local solicitor who can advise on the legalities and exact wording needed to complete your will. We work with local solicitors during Free Wills month, where you can have your will written for free in return for a donation to Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity. There is no obligation to leave us a gift in order to use this service and we would not be notified in either case, unless you wanted to inform us.

If you choose to include  Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity

in your will, you will need the following information:

  • Our Charity Number: 1119499
  • Our Charity Name: Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity
  • Our Address:
Unit 2, Walton Lodge, Walton Street Aylesbury, HP21 7QY

Do not amend your Will yourself as it will become invalid. You can write a codicil which is a document that amends (rather than replaces) a Will. The codicil must also abide by the same legal requirements as the original Will.  It must also have two witnesses who do not benefit from the Will in any way.

It is more common now to re-write the whole Will as codicils can adversely affect a Will if incorrectly written and witnessed.

Gifts to charity in your will are tax-free – If you put a gift in your will to Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity, it will be deducted from the value of your estate before the taxman calculates how much inheritance tax, if any, is payable.

To find out more about Inheritance Tax, visit gov.uk/inheritance-tax or contact your solicitor.

You can choose to nominate a specific area of our hospice care which you would like your gift to be restricted to, for example, our FNH@Home team or In-Patient Unit. If you do not nominate a specific service, your gift will be used to cover the area of greatest need within the hospice services.

No. This is a very personal and sensitive choice and is completely confidential. Of course, if you do decide to leave us a gift and would like to get in touch with us, please do so and we would love to say thank you.

Yes of course you can. A will is your own personal document. You can change it at any time, and you don’t need to tell us.
