On Saturday we brought the musical Annie to Wycombe Swan Theatre. This was a fundraising event with a difference. 100 enthusiastic children, a host of adults performing on stage and supporting behind the scenes and one girl who had a very special reason for being part of the show.
One of the young performers, Jessica had seen our audition information at our Hospice where her father was being cared for earlier this year. Jessica auditioned and performed in the show on Saturday. She is 9 years old. She spoke beautifully afterwards in front of hundreds of people about the treatment her dad had received and the kindness of the nurses who had looked after them all. Jessica talked about the Hospice being a magical place. She also talked about the friends she had made whilst being part of our On Stage community.
We feel very fortunate to bring together so many wonderful children, giving them the opportunity to have a memorable experience and be themselves. Well done to our amazing staff and volunteers who have worked so hard to make Annie a success, raising money for the Hospice and creating wonderful memories for all the children.
A parent of a cast member said, “Wow! There are no words to describe how amazing Annie was. I am still in awe of how you pulled it altogether in a week. I’ve been involved in shows of lesser quality that took months to pull together. The professionalism, the passion and the care all shone through. A massive, massive well done and thank you to all of you, and everyone involved.
My son absolutely loved being involved, he actually had a few tears Saturday night because he was so sad it was over. Thank you for making his first experience with On Stage such a wonderful one. And thank you for letting me be part of it too by Chaperoning, it was a real honour and a privilege, what a great group of kids they are, I loved every second of it.”
We would also like to say a massive thanks to our supporters and sponsors Seymour Taylor, B P Collins LLP, Another Answer Books and Accounts, Handelsbanken, Widmer End and District Funeral Directors and Wycombe Sound – we really value all the support you provide.
