“Walking alongside someone through grief is a privilege – and volunteering with Florence Nightingale Hospice has given me the chance to do just that.”
After eight years as a Volunteer Listener with Milton Keynes Bereavement Service, I was sad when it closed after COVID. I knew I wanted to keep supporting people in this way, and a friend shared how wonderful Florence Nightingale Hospice had been when her husband passed away. That conversation changed everything.
I retrained with Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity in 2022, and I’ve never looked back. Today, I’m proud to be a Peer Group Supervisor, helping others provide compassionate support through bereavement.
The most fulfilling part? Seeing someone find strength again after loss, taking small steps into a new chapter. I often describe my role as walking alongside someone as they learn to live differently, with courage and hope.
Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity is filled with the most special people – it’s such a positive, purpose-driven community. Volunteering here has given me a deep sense of value and connection.
There are so many ways to get involved – whether you have a little time or a lot, there’s a role for you. I’ve always felt truly appreciated, and I wholeheartedly recommend joining this amazing team.
