Please note that audition registration is now closed. If you would like to find out more about future On Stage opportunities please follow us on social media.

Would you love to perform on a professional stage in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

Step inside a world of pure imagination! We’re on the lookout for children (aged 6-17 years old) to take to the big stage at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre for a very special fundraising performance of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in August 2024.

No experience necessary – just enthusiasm, commitment, and a love of theatre are needed for this exciting chance to shine on the big stage.

All money raised from this community project will go directly to Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity, which is dedicated to delivering the best hospice care for everyone who needs it across Buckinghamshire and its borders, wherever and whenever they need it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. There will be a fee of £200 for the project. This helps to cover the cost of rehearsal venues, costumes and theatre hire.  A 25% sibling discount will be available.

During the audition there will be a brief introduction to the team, an outline chat on the audition process and we will explain our expectations of the participants.

All attendees will learn a song and be given the opportunity to perform a solo song and dialogue. Those wishing to audition for a principal role must be prepared to sing and act in front of others.

The audition dialogue and song is contained in the audition pack which can be downloaded here. Call backs for principal roles will be held on Sunday 12th May, if you are offered one of these places you will receive an email with a timeslot and the relevant audition material to learn.

Please bring a 6×4 inch photo of yourself, light refreshments and any required medication.

We have had a huge amount of interest in this project already. If necessary, we will cap audition numbers at 300, but will run a reserve list if more apply than we have capacity for.

There will be 150 places available in the cast; we will not be able to take everyone, so it is inevitable that some children will be disappointed at the end of this process, and we ask that you, as their parents/guardians, help to support us and manage their expectations. Because of the numbers that we are dealing with and the compressed timescale of the project, we will not be able to give individual feedback on auditions and outcomes.

If you have performed in one of Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity’s productions before, please do not assume that you will automatically get a place; there simply will not be enough space for everyone. We want you to be aware of this at the outset.

No. We welcome auditionees who have no experience, who are enthusiastic, committed and have a love of theatre.

Something that is light, comfortable and easy to move in.

You will be advised during the week commencing 20th May by email if you have been successful.

Rehearsals will start on Saturday 20th July – Wednesday 31st July 2024. All children will have a couple of days off, in line with child performance regulations. We expect your child to attend every rehearsal they are called for.

All children will need to be available for the technical and dress rehearsals at the theatre on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd August 2024.

You will be advised of timings if your child is offered a place.

Most costume elements will be provided. You will be asked to provide some basic elements such as shoes, specific underwear or plain t shirts, depending on your role.

Everyone involved in the production will be DBS checked.

Each group of children will be chaperoned at all auditions, rehearsals and performances. Many of our volunteers are licensed chaperones.

There will be qualified first aiders on site throughout the rehearsals and performances.
