Volunteering at Florence Nightingale Hospice has been a game-changer for me
As a volunteer on the Inpatient Unit, I’ve gained so much more than I expected. It’s not just a great experience for my future, it’s been deeply meaningful on a personal level too.
One of the most powerful parts? The moments I share with patients’ families. Being there during such an emotional time, even just offering a cup of tea and a smile, reminds me how important the little things really are. Those small acts of kindness make a big difference—and they’ve made a big impact on me too.
Working alongside the amazing hospice team, especially the nurses, has been such a highlight. Everyone’s been so supportive, especially the Volunteer Engagement Team —I’ve always felt safe, valued, and encouraged to grow.
If you’re a young person thinking about volunteering, do it. You’ll gain perspective, gratitude, confidence, and be part of something truly meaningful.
