Our Hospice Drivers are invaluable to our regular patients, enabling them to attend Day Hospice and other Day Clinics by providing transport free of charge to and from the Hospice.
“As I no longer drive, the commitment of Michael, who is a volunteer driver for Florence and takes me there and back, enables me to have a positive experience without having to ask my husband or family to take me for yet another appointment.”
Helen, Day Hospice patient
What will I be doing?
You will be collecting our patients from their homes in your own vehicle or our Paravan (where a valid driving licence is held) to bring them to the Hospice at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury for appointments and then returning them home.
You will be required to:
- Drive patients to and from their home address to the Hospice for their appointment/ Day Hospice session at Florence Nightingale Hospice
- Engage with patients, making them feel comfortable in your company
- Liaising with the hospice to ensure transport is planned and details are correct
- Maintaining contact with the Hospice and informing the nursing team of any concerns you may have about the patient. For example, if the patient has been unwell on the journey
All volunteers are given support and training as necessary to ensure you are happy and confident in your role. Travel expenses will be paid.
