We are very proud to offer the Elephant in the Room project, this idea was started by a lady called Lorna, who following the loss of her husband, joined a sewing group and took inspiration from this when she found herself not wishing to part with some special pieces of her husband’s clothing. She decided to turn these into a beautiful stuffed elephant and found it such a comfort that she wanted to share her idea with others.
What will I be doing?
You will be helping us to make these wonderful elephants for our supporters. We allow 5 – 6 weeks to create the elephants, meaning that you can make this in your own time, at a convenient time to you.
You will need a sewing machine to make the elephant and also confidence in your sewing skills. We will provide you with all the materials required including the items of clothing, templates and stuffing so there will be no cost to you to make these. We will arrange to deliver the materials and collect the finished elephant from you.
Please note that the items of clothing belonged to a much-loved family member, you must therefore feel comfortable with using these materials as carefully as possible and feel confident that you can help to produce a special one-of-a-kind keepsake for our supporters.
We will ask that you make a ‘trial elephant’ when you first sign up, this is to ensure that the elephant is up to the high expectations of our supporters when using their loved ones precious garments. The trial process will be explained fully by a member of the team who can answer any questions you may have once you have signed up.
