“It’s a charity that means a lot to me and my family”, stated Nicholas when we spoke to him after his fundraising with us. Nicholas took on the tough challenge to swim 5000m at Braywick Leisure Centre. He did this both to raise funds for the charity and in honour of his father, who Nicholas described as a “wonderful man and one of the most interesting people I have ever known”. The Hospice supported Anthony (Nicholas’ Father) during the treatment of his life-limiting illness.
Using his previous lifeguard experience, Nicholas trained once or twice a week for three and a half months in preparation for the challenge. After some pre-swim nerves, incredibly, Nicholas beat his target time by 15 minutes! Completing the swim in just 2 hours 45 minutes.
When we asked him why he decided to fundraise for us, he
explained that “the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity is wonderful and they
deserve as much support as possible”. Nicholas managed to raise a fantastic £963
through his ‘swimathon’ and we couldn’t be happier or more grateful of his
achievement.
To Nicholas and those who donated to his challenge, thank you.
