The countdown is on for our next On-Stage production, The Wiz, which is coming to Aylesbury Waterside Theatre on 27th August. We are excited that some of the talented cast have returned after taking part in our first show, Nativity! The Musical last year, which raised an incredible £55,000 for local hospice care.

One of the returning cast members is Isabella from Princes Risborough, Isabella was inspired to take part in Nativity! The Musical by her auntie Jessie who was a staff nurse at the In-Patient Unit at Florence Nightingale Hospice. Jessie cheered on Isabella from the stands and has been reflecting on the night of the show, she told us:

“It was truly amazing to see a full theatre last year to watch Nativity! The Musical, and to see many faces new and old. All the children that took part were amazing. The amount raised last year was incredible, and it would be fantastic if we could beat that target this year.”

Jessie has now moved to a role as a Nurse in the FNH@Home team, she told us:

“Florence Nightingale Hospice is an extremely special place that allows patients and their relatives to have important conversations, with staff facilitating special memories. Working at the Hospice is a privilege, and I count myself lucky every day to be able to work with such skilled, caring and compassionate people. We build trusted relationships with patients and relatives by taking the time to get to know them as individuals, not patients. This allows us to provide the best care, whether it be for a patient who is with us for symptom control or for end-of-life care”.

“The money raised from the shows goes towards the wonderful service that I’m now working for. The FNH@Home Team support people in their homes. Without the money raised, this service would not be possible. And due to a growing demand, it’s proved to be a vital service, supporting patient’s wishes for end-of-life care at home”.

“I am incredibly proud of my niece Isabella who is participating in ‘The Wiz’ this year, I have already bought my tickets and we cannot wait to come and watch the show, as so much effort goes into making it a fabulous event.”

Asked about the upcoming show, Isabella told us “I am so excited to take part in The Wiz, I feel that my confidence has grown so much since Nativity and now I have been selected to be a dancer, which will be an amazing opportunity, it is great to do something worthwhile while raising funds for such an important cause”.

We would like to wish Isabella the best of luck for her upcoming performance and thank Jessie for sharing her story. Tickets are still available for both the matinee and evening performances of The Wiz, get your tickets here
