A wedding dress with a story to tell

Wedding dress at Aylesbury High Street

A wedding dress with a very special story has been donated to our Aylesbury High Street shop to raise funds for local hospice care.

The dress has been donated by Sharon Arrowsmith who wore it at her wedding in 2021, which was held at the Hospice where her partner Russ was being cared for in his final weeks.

“My beautiful, funny husband, Russ, proposed to me on a hospital trolley. He looked me in the eye and said, “Marry me. I love you so much.” Russ was ill, really ill, but I said yes anyway – because he wasn’t just my partner, he was my best friend.”

“At the Hospice, we were surrounded by care, love and compassion. Nothing was too much trouble. And when we said we wanted to get married, the Hospice made it happen.  The wedding was so beautiful. Although the excitement took it out of Russ, the nurses made sure he could enjoy every moment. They attended to his symptoms and encouraged him to rest when he could – but they never once got in the way or made us feel awkward.”

Sharon is determined to continue to support the work of the Hospice and help them be there for other patients and families in future.  She has donated her dress to our Aylesbury High Street shop to help raise funds so that more patients, like Russ, can receive the specialist, dedicated care the Hospice provides.

“I’ll never be able to repay the Hospice for all they’ve done, and continue to do for my family.  I hope the person who purchases my dress, feels as special as I did on my wedding day to Russ.”

We have recently opened a Bridal & Wedding department at our Wendover charity shop, with a wide range of new and preloved wedding outfits and accessories.  To arrange an appointment at the Bridal Department please call 01296 622311.
